Portada » Resources Gender » Twenty years of gender equality research: A scoping review based on a new semantic indicator
This paper addresses gender equality as a critical issue that limits economic growth and societal progress, placing women at a disadvantage. The study presents a scoping review of 15,465 scientific articles on gender equality, with a specific focus on business and economics, using innovative network analysis and text mining methods. We identify 27 core research topics, analyzing their semantic relevance and interrelationships within the broader gender discourse. Key areas such as workforce participation, compensation, education, decision-making, and career advancement remain central, though some topics are waning while others—like female entrepreneurship, leadership, and board participation—are gaining prominence. This study not only introduces a novel approach for reviewing large literature streams but also provides a thematic map of prevailing and emerging trends in gender research. By revealing significant intersections among topics, our paper highlights valuable directions for future research, offering scholars a foundational overview of the primary themes and evolving focuses in gender equality studies.
