In honor of International Women’s Day 2021, Gender STI is launching a “#WomenInLeadership” campaign, which aims to celebrate women leaders in science, technology and innovation and shed light on their journeys, challenges and goals.
The campaign was inspired by the United Nation’s theme for International Women’s Day 2021, “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.” Through their work, there is no doubt that every single woman in the Gender STI campaign is breaking gender barriers and using science, technology and innovation (STI) to create a better world.
All of the women in the campaign were nominated by one of the partners in the Gender STI consortium. Partners nominated women leaders who work passionately with their teams to expand scientific knowledge, use STI for the benefit of society and support other scientists and innovators.
In total, Gender STI received 22 nominations of extraordinary women leaders from 11 countries: Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Lebanon, Mexico, South Africa, South Korea, Spain and the U.S. We are featuring all of their stories over the next few days on our website and social media channels.
Nominees include women researchers, professors, current and former government officials, industry leaders, innovation directors and inclusive designers, among many others.
To follow the campaign and join in on the conversation, use the hashtag #WomenInLeadership as well as the official IWD hashtag, #IWD2021. You can follow our activity on our official Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook pages, as well as on the news section of our website.
At Gender STI, it is an honor to recognize these amazing women leaders from across the globe. We have learned so much about leadership, gender equality, perseverance and believing in yourself from our wonderful nominees over the past few weeks. Although all their stories were different, there was one common theme in nearly all of the responses: Women’s voices matter and they deserve to be heard.
When we as a society listen to women and include them in decision-making, there are no limits to what we can achieve.
