The Gender STI project will attend the 6th World Congress on Women in Bangalore, India on March 8. The conference, featuring the theme “Redefining Work-Life Balance: Family, Career, Love and Money," will focus on key elements of gender equality that are critical to achieving more inclusivity in science, technology and innovation (STI).
The World Congress on Women is an annual conference that highlights women from the public and private sectors and invites them to share their personal and professional leadership journeys. This is especially meaningful given how important it is for women to see and learn from other women who are successful in their fields. The conference will allow participants to present their projects to experts in science, engineering, technology, research, business and advocacy, among others, and receive feedback.
It will be held virtually at the BioGenesis Health Cluster in Bangalore.
Gender STI will be represented by its partner, the Euro India Research Center (EIRC), at the
virtual event. EIRC is specialized in facilitating new scientific partnerships between academia,
research centers and businesses in India and Europe.
The conference’s keynote guest is Dr. Kiran Bedi, the lieutenant governor of the city of Pudacherry. Bedi was the first woman to join the Indian Police Service and served for 35 years.
During that time, she was named police advisor to the secretary-general of the United Nations.
In addition to her duties in Pudacherry, Bedi also runs the nonprofit Indian Vision Fund, which focuses on reformation programs and reintegration opportunities for prison inmates, as well as welfare programs for their children.
The event will also feature many other notable women, including her highness Pramoda Devi
Wadiyar, Dr. Kalpana Gopalan IAS and Soumya Mishra.
“While significant progress has been made towards gender equality including efforts to ensure equal access to education, health care and job opportunities, women and girls continue to suffer discrimination and violence in many parts of the world,” said Dr. Kamini A Rao, the conference chairperson. “Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but ensuring representation for women in political and economic decision-making processes will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large.”
